FAQs

  Don't see your modem?
Firmware is not available for all modems. Some modems are no longer supported.

What is modem firmware?
Firmware is the combination of memory and data that is stored in your modem.

  Why are updates provided?
Firmware updates improve your modems performance. Here are some things to keep in mind about firmware updates/upgrades:
  • Use Internet Explorer or Safari.
  • Use an Ethernet connection.
  • Use a computer running a supported operating system.
  • A firmware update/upgrade will NOT reset the custom settings in your modem.
  What is a firmware recovery?
If a firmware update/upgrade fails, try using a firmware recovery (when Yes). Here are some things to keep in mind about a Recovery:
  • Use Internet Explorer or Safari.
  • Use an Ethernet connection.
  • Use a computer running a supported operating system.
  • Performing a firmware recovery WILL reset the custom settings in your modem. Here are some examples of custom settings: static IP entries, wireless settings, port forwarding, routing, DHCP settings.
Why would my modem need drivers?
A driver is a program that controls a hardware device. Some older modems have a USB port that can be used to provide Internet access to certain operating systems. Some newer modems have a USB host port on the back. This USB host port does not provide internet access and is not supported at this time.
