Enable 2nd SSID with WEP security

When your Wi-Fi device doesn't work with newer Wi-Fi security like WPA, you can enable a 2nd SSID using WEP security for that device. WEP is less secure than WPA and is not available on all modems. This article applies to most newer CenturyLink modems.

1. Open a web browser and go to http://192.168.0.1.

2. Login to your modem by doing the following:

3. Select "Wireless Setup".

4. Select "SSID Setup"

5. Select an SSID that is not in use. (ex. SSID2, SSID3 or SSID4)

6. Select "Enable SSID".

7. Select "Apply" to save your changes.

8. Select "Wireless Security".

9. Select the same SSID from the previous step. (ex. SSID2, SSID3 or SSID4)

10. Select "WEP" for the encryption type.

11. Under the number 1 Key:
  • A. Select "64 Bits" or "128 Bits" from the drop down.
    • 64 bits = 10 characters (0-9 and A-F)
    • 128 bits = 26 characters (0-9 and A-F)
  • B. Enter the desired security key/passphrase

12. Select "Apply".
