  Troubleshooting the Norton Installation
Step 1. Check to see if your system meets the Norton AntiVirus requirements
Windows System Requirements:
Microsoft® Windows® XP with Service Pack 2 or later Home/Professional/Media Center
Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 (32/64-bit) Starter/Home Basic/Home Premium/Business/Ultimate
Microsoft Windows 7 (32/64-bit) Starter/Home Basic/Home Premium/Professional/Ultimate
Step 2. Delete Windows Temporary Files
  1. Exit all open programs.
  2. Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following:
    • For Windows XP: Click Start > Run.
    • For Windows 7 or Vista: Click the Start button, and then click All programs > Accessories > Run.

  3. In the run dialog box, type the following text: %temp%
  4. Click OK. The current user's Temp folder opens in Windows Explorer.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
  6. Press Delete.
  7. If you are asked to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
Step 3. Delete Temporary Internet Files
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. On the General Tab, under Browsing History, click Delete.
  4. Click Delete files, and then click Yes.
  5. Click Delete cookies, and then click Yes.
  6. Click Close, and then click OK.
Step 4. Remove any other antivirus programs that are installed
  1. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel.
  2. Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following:
    • For Windows 7 and Vista, click Uninstall a Program.
    • For Windows XP, double-click Add or Remove Programs.

  3. In the list of installed programs, click any other antivirus program you want to remove, and then click Remove or Uninstall.
  4. To confirm that you want to uninstall the product, click Remove All.
  5. Click Restart Windows Now (Recommended), and then click Finish.
Step 5. Download your Norton™ product
Go to the Norton™ download page and make your selection.

  How do I install Norton AntiVirus if another version of Norton is already on my PC?
  • 1. Uninstall your existing Norton product.
  • 2. Install Norton on your computer.
  How many computers can I install Norton AntiVirus on?
Your CenturyLink High-Speed Internet subscription allows you to install Norton on up to five computers.
I have installed it on less than five computers
  • The process for installing Norton on additional computers is the same as it is on the first computer.
I have more than five computers and need additional licenses
  • CenturyLink customers can receive a discount when purchasing additional licenses of Norton and other Norton products. Go to the Norton Store to purchase additional Windows licenses or Macintosh licenses. For technical support on additional licenses, see Norton Technical Support.
  • If you want to install Norton on more than five computers without purchasing an additional license, then you must uninstall it from one of your existing computers before you install it on your new computer.
  How do I uninstall Norton AntiVirus?
Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following:
  • On Windows 7 or Vista, click Uninstall a Program.
  • On Windows XP, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In the list of installed programs, click the Norton or Symantec product, and then click Remove or Uninstall.
  • To confirm that you want to uninstall the product, click Norton Complete Uninstall.
  • Click Next.
  • Click Restart Now.
  • If the above steps do not remove the old Norton product from your computer, use the Norton Removal Tool.

  Why do I need to install additional Norton AntiVirus updates after the initial installation?
  • The initial Norton download includes the base Norton product. Once installed, the software will then check for the latest virus definitions and product updates released since the installation software was created. While these additional updates may take some time to install, it assures that your computer is fully protected from the very latest security threats.
